Why Every Family Should Have A Farmer

Every Family Should Have A Farmer

Let me explain. I think it would be great if we could all just quit our jobs and grow food and focus on the simple things in life. However, I know that many people have no desire to grow food on their own and would much prefer that the food is grown by other people. There are, in fact, entire families in which not one person is interested in growing food. That is ok with me! I believe we all have our own giftings which we can use to bless others, and not everyone is a gardener. I can’t play the violin, I am not an engineer, and I cannot paint a beautiful landscape. I am so happy there are others that have the skill and passion to do a variety of things well. The world is such a rich place because of the differences between us.

Trying to eat healthy today can feel like navigating a labyrinth. Not only does what is accepted as “Healthy” seem to change from one day to the next, but our increased reliance on industrialized farm models has led to our food being produced in ways that are not appetizing at all. Why You Should Quit The Gym And Choose Lifercise

Quit the Gym and LIfercise

What is Lifercise? It is a word I made up. At least I think I made it up. A Google search showed no direct hits. So allow me to define this new word for you:

life-er-cise (lyfercize) noun.  The practice of taking opportunities that arise in your daily life to get exercise. Example:

What Living In A Blue Zone Taught Me About The Path To Longevity

Life Is The Best Excercise

Have you heard or read anything about blue zone research lately? In case you haven’t I will begin by explaining that blue zones are areas of the world in which the residents experience higher than average levels of longevity. The researchers found that there were 5 geographic areas in the world that had the highest level of centenarians, or people over the age of 100. The areas are Ikaria, Greece; Ogliastra Region, Sardinia; Loma Linda, California; Okinawa, Japan; and the Nicoya Peninsula, Costa Rica. I am going to focus on the Nicoya Peninsula in this article because it is an area that I have personal experience with. My husband and I lived there for about a year and half early in our marriage and our first daughter was born there. I want to share with you some first hand observations we made while living there about the lifestyle of the local people. 10 Best Books To Help You Begin Your Homesteading Journey

Best Homesteading Books

Yes, the internet is great. People can search for and learn about anything they have ever wanted to know. I use the internet all the time when I need an answer to a specific question right now, and I am so grateful to be able to do so. But there is just something about a book, don’t you think? I am a lifelong book lover and nothing replaces the feel of a book in my hands, turning the pages, and the satisfying feeling when I have finished, filled with new knowledge that was gained through trial and error by the people who came before me. I also think a book is much more fun to read in a hammock, or under a tree than a smart phone. The books I am going to recommend turned me from someone who was just a homesteading wannabe into someone who was capable of fulfilling that mission. I read many, many more books than this only journey. These were my absolute favorites, and I had a hard time choosing only ten. I asked myself the question: If the internet suddenly was not available, which books about homesteading would you want on your shelf? Warning: Do not read these books unless you want to get seriously fired up about becoming a farmer! There is an incredible amount of wisdom contained in the following pages. Please save yourself time, money, and stress and do your research before undertaking a lifestyle that is completely new to you. Why I Only Eat Pastured Eggs

Only Eat Pastured Eggs

These days when a person is perusing the egg section at the grocery store there are so many choices. There are regular eggs, simply labeled grade A. Those are the worst. These birds are kept in the tightest quarters possible and fed the lowest quality food. There are Organic eggs. That sounds pretty good right? We live in a time when people are becoming more concerned about animal welfare. An organic egg seems like a better option to many, surely a hen that lays an organic egg had a better life?
